Private Felix Hal, 24th infantry, was last seen alive on Feb. 12, 1941 in a white neighborhood at Fort Benning, Georgia. His decomposing body was found on March 28. The FBI’s 130-page file on the lynching was not opened to review until 2016, when Alexa Mills detailed the story for the Washington Post.
